After a fairly exciting start to the reincarnation of the XFL, we expect things to calm down slightly as coordinators get a handle on opposition game plans and their key players.
The Week 1 schedule gave us some large margins which is unlikely to be repeated this week. Let’s take a look at some of the top bets for Week 2 of the XFL.
Tampa Bay Vipers @ Seattle Dragons
15th February @ 5:05PM
The Vipers are travelling to Seattle for this match and both sides are in search for their first win in the XFL. Seattle suffered a 32-19 loss on the road to the DC Defenders in Week 1. Tampa Bay on the other hand had a lacklustre 23-3 defeat to the New York Guardians. It is not the ideal start for either of these teams, but both will be looking to bounce back. Austin Proehl was lively for the Dragons offence with five receptions for 88 yards along with 2 TD’s.
Tampa Bay were strong on their offense and outperformed New York on yardage. The Vipers just lacked the last few yards when they needed it most. They will look to De’Veon Smith to run the ball against Seattle. The weather in Seattle is set for rain. Seattle’s home advantage should get them over the line in this fixture, but it will be tight until the 4th quarter.
Back the Dragons in the money line at +105 with CanPlay.
New York Guardians @ DC Defenders
15th February @ 2PM
Both teams contributed to last weeks league debut with victories. The Guardians limited Tampa Bay to a single field goal during their game but still gave up serious yardage. They managed five sacks, seven tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. This pressure will be put onto Cardale Jones by this Guardians side. Cardale Jones is a better Quarterback than Aaron Murray and the pass rush will be much more difficult for the Guardians this week.
The Defenders throw the ball better than New York and Matt McGloin is average. He was effective against Tampa Bay when required but lacks a real threat against a strong pass rush. If the Defenders can slow down the pass rush from the Guardians, then DC should pick apart their defence with the passing game. The Defenders are too strong on offense and should come away with a decent win.
Bet on the Defenders (-7) at -117 with CanPlay.
St. Louis BattleHawks @ Houston Roughnecks
16th February @ 6PM
The BattleHawks and Roughnecks close out this weekend’s action. Both teams are coming off impressive Week 1 victories that showed they have championship credentials in this eight team league.
The Roughnecks arguably looked the strongest of all these new franchises as they put up 37 points against the Los Angeles Wildcats. Their quarterback P.J Walker was named XFL Star of the Week after he contributed four touchdowns in Week 1. On paper, the St. Louis’ defense is a lot stronger than the operation Walker faced in Week 1. Will Hill proved to be a key man in the BattleHawks defense as they restricted the Dallas Renegades to 9 points in Week 1.
It looks as though the BattleHawks will favour the option offense this season – QB Jordan Ta’amu rushed for 77 yards in Week 1. Former 2nd Round NFL draft pick Kony Ealy will be well aware of Ta’amu’s prowess on the edge.
Houston look stronger across the field. Back them to win against the spread at -112 with CanPlay.
