With two resounding successes in the last week, the UFC will proceed with another event in the VyStars Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. This comes after a fantastic UFC 249 with Justin Gaethje upsetting Tony Ferguson in the main event. On Wednesday night Glover Teixeira beat Anthony Smith in a 5th Round KO victory.
This weekend – Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris face off in a heavyweight clash. Also on the card, Claudia Gadelha faces Angela Hill and Dan Ige takes on Edson Barboza.
Alistair Overeem vs. Walter Harris
16th May 2020 11PM
Two perennial heavyweight contenders face off in Saturday’s main event. Skilled Dutch fighter Overeem is surprisingly the outsider at +115 with CanPlay. His opponent Walter Harris has not fought in over a year and could have some rust considering the unusual training camp before this fight.
Harris is favourite at -155 and there’s one reason why – his striking ability. All of his 13 wins inside the UFC octagon have finished with a knockout. This is Overeem’s downfall. He notoriously struggles against big hitters. In his last bout he suffered a last minute knockdown against Jairzinho Rozenstruik despite leading on the cards.
This will be Alistair Overeem’s 86th professional MMA bout and it’s fair to say that his best days are behind him. In contrast, Harris is still on an upward curve and if he can get a few wins under his belt then he could be on course for a title bout.
Walter Harris to win by KO/TKO/DQ looks to be the best bet at +100 with CanPlay.
Claudia Gadelha vs Angela Hill
16th May 2020 10:30PM
Former strawweight contender Claudia Gadelha is strong favourite for this one at -220. Gadelha has proven herself in recent fights. She is a heavy hitter and good on the ground which is a potent mix inside the octagon.
She faces another good fighter in Angela Hill. ‘Overkill’ Hill from Maryland has won three fights in a row and is a great striker. However, she is not known for his grappling technique and may struggle if Gadelha can bring her to the ground.
Hill is a fan favourite and we expect there will be plenty of people backing her to win on Saturday night. We’re going to stick with the favourite though and bet on Gadelha to win on points at -110 with CanPlay. The Brazilian has too many weapons for Hill to combat.
Edson Barboza vs Dan Ige
16th May 2020 10PM
Another Brazilian takes to the octagon on Saturday with Edson Barboza faces Dan Ige. The 34-year-old Barboza has the unwanted moniker of best fighter never to win a title. Time is slipping away from him now and this fight could be crucial in righting the ship for him. He has lost two in a row and three in a row could be the end of his time at the top of the UFC.
He is a fantastic striker but Ige is a fighter on the up. The Hawaiian is a great grappler and he will need the fight to go to ground to force a victory on Saturday night. Back Ige to win at +100 with CanPlay.
