We have another highly anticipated event from UFC’s Apex Gym in Las Vegas to look forward to this weekend. This Fight Night promotion is headlined by Jessica Eye versus Cynthia Calvillo. There are a number of fighters on this card that will not be familiar to casual fight fans but still plenty to look forward to with Karl Roberson going head to head with Marvin Vettori and Andre Fili facing Charles Jourdain.
Jessica Eye vs Cynthia Calvillo
Saturday 13th June 11PM
Rising star Cynthia Calvillo makes her flyweight debut against former title contender Jessica ‘Evil’ Eye. Calvillo has proven herself as a strong strawweight fighter and she is being well backed in the media and the betting for this fight.
It’s a fight of contrasting styles. Finishing power isn’t Eye’s strength while Calvillo has recorded five wins inside the distance as part of her 8-1-1 record. Eye’s main strength is her resilience – she has won 11 of her 16 professional bouts that have gone all the way to a decision. Of course Calvillo’s wins have all come up at 115lbs so it remains to be seen how she will cope with the extra power and weight at the flyweight level.
We think the size advantage will play a big part in this bout. You can back Eye to win by points at a reasonable +140 with CanPlay. If you fancy Calvillo to pull of the upset you can bet on the Sacramento fighter to win at -115.
Karl Roberson vs Marvin Vettori
Saturday 13th June 10:30PM
It’s a a case of third time lucky for both fighters and fight fans in this one. Their initial bout was cancelled due to coronavirus lockdown. That fight was rescheduled for the 14th May in Florida but again it was cancelled due to complications suffered by Roberson after an intense weight cut.
That delay has actually added fuel to the fire between these fighters. A widely shared video showing the two getting into a war of words in a hotel lobby has appeared on the internet over the last few days.
Vettori will most likely want to bring this one to the mat. The Italian has finished eight of his nineteen professional fights via tapout. ‘Baby K’ Roberson seems to prefer to fight on his feet. His left hand is his main weapon of choice and Vettori will have to be wary as he steps forward for the takedown.
Again, not much separates these two in the betting. Vettori is slight favourite at -235 while Roberson can be backed at +165. One bet that stands out to us is will the fight go the distance. Both men have a history of finishing inside the rounds so the odds of +140 for the fight not to go all three rounds looks a good bet with CanPlay.
Andre Fili vs Charles Jourdain
Saturday 13th June 9:30PM
Two of the best nicknames in the UFC enter the Octagon at 9:30 on Saturday night. West coast fighter ‘Touchy’ Fili faces Charles ‘Air’ Jourdain in this featherweight bout.
This is only Jourdain’s third fight in the UFC. The Canadian fighter lost his first bout in May 2019 but rebounded with a TKO victory over the ‘Korean Zombie’ Doo Ho Choi just before Christmas. His 10 professional wins have all come via TKO/KO/Submission which is something to note when making your bets.
His oppenent Andre Fili is much more experienced. This is Fili’s 15th fight in the UFC having won 8 of his previous 14. As we mentioned in the introduction, these fighters are not big names but there is plenty to look forward to. We’re backing the exciting Jourdain to pull off an upset. You can bet on the Quebec fighter to win at +175 with CanPlay.
