Not too long after the Premier League season has finished here, we are ready for it to start all over again. The new teams coming into the league this year from the championship are Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, and Fulham. The season is going to start off quickly and anything can happen for Premier League betting. Most of the players have not got their usual break as they jumped straight into international games.
The new season is shaping up to be a bit more competitive than last year where Liverpool had a 20-point lead in March. The lack of fans in the stadiums towards the end of the year has been noticeable and does take away from the atmosphere at games. However, the quality of soccer has not declined. It also was probably not a large enough sample to decide if away teams perform better with no fans. This season will paint a clearer picture.
There is going to be continuous fixture congestion throughout the season. It may benefit top clubs who have greater squad depth or punish the ones who are competing in European competitions.
Premier League Title Challengers
Liverpool is the current Premier League champions. They won the Premier League for the first time and their 19th League Title for the club. After only a handful of seasons, Jurgen Klopp has earned the mantle of club legend after ending a long dry streak for Liverpool since they won the Champions League in 2005. Taking the Champions League followed by the Premier League to Anfield in two consecutive seasons. They have been quiet in the transfer market buying only Tsimikas from Olympiacos. They have been linked to Thiago from Bayern Munich, but the transfer is yet to go through.
Even without many signings, the Liverpool squad has shown they have the strength to win the league. They are going to be around the top of the table no doubt. Liverpool is currently sitting at second favorites to win the league at (+200) for Premier League betting. Man City are the favorites to win the league even after being 18 points off Liverpool by the final game of the season.
They bolstered their defense buying Nathan Ake in the transfer window and a 20-year-old winger Ferran Torres. The big advantage Man City have is their large squad depth. Their defense struggled last season lacking some quality but the midfield and attackers have back up players who are good enough to start on 16 or 17 other Premier League Teams. City is (-170) to finish the season off on top of the table here at Canplay.
The only other possibility, with me stretching the word possible quite a lot, contenders for the title are Chelsea and Manchester United. Both teams battled and managed to achieve top four last season. They still have a bit to go before catching Liverpool or Man City. Chelsea has made some progress being extremely aggressive in the transfer market. They somehow managed to sell Morata for CA$85 million even though he was an average performer. Chelsea proceeded to buy Kai Haverts, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell who are all under the age of 25. Hakim Ziyech is the only player they bought over that age at 27 years old.
It is difficult to predict how the Chelsea team will click with their four new signings that will all be looking for a starting position. If these stars can perform at the same level as their previous clubs then the London side won’t be too far away from the quality at Liverpool and City. Chelsea are (+1000) to win the league. Manchester United came alive at the second half of last season when Bruno Fernandes joined the club in January. They will be hoping new signing Donny Van de Beek can compliment his midfield partnership with Pogba. United are not serious title contenders but a few new signings or a couple of big winning streaks could see a season similar to Leicester’s title-winning year. Manchester United are (+1400) to win the league.
Arsenal and Tottenham both fell noticeably short last year of their top-four hopes. Expect them to struggle this year again with making a top-four position. Both sides are more likely to qualify for the Europa league but will find it demanding to break the top four. Leicester and Wolves may even finish above the sides.
Usually, a very tricky one to call. Anything can happen especially with teams who get newly promoted. However, two teams are noticeably weaker than the rest. Fulham are (-110) to be relegated and West Brom is (+105). Both teams lack squad depth and quality. Neither side will be fit for the hectic schedule. Other teams in the hat for the final relegation spot are Aston Villa at (+175), Crystal Palace at (+200), and Newcastle at (+225) here at Canplay.
Newcastle and Aston Villa made some decent signings and could stay up if they can provide the much-needed goals. West Ham is (+350), they are a side that narrowly missed relegation last year and could be back in the mix again. Leeds have just got promoted and with Bielsa behind the wheel, they could easily make a top half of the table finish if they can carry their momentum from the championship.
