We’ve made our way through the first third of the NHL season and the Boston Bruins have taken control of the Atlantic Division and the Stanley Cup betting and they are now favourites at +800 with CanPlay.
2018 winners Washington Capitals have also seized the initiative in the Eastern Conference. Todd Reirden’s side lead the Metropolitan Division with 19 wins.
Things are a lot tighter in the Western Conference with a number of teams stuck on 15/16 wins in the Central and Pacific Divisions.
There are some great games on the schedule this week and we have previewed three with all the betting info you need.
Los Angeles Kings @ Anaheim Ducks
2nd December 2019 10:05PM
The two basement dwellers in the Pacific Division come face-to-face on Monday night at the Honda Center. The Kings can overtake the Anaheim Ducks with a win.
Both squads have struggled through the first few months of the season sitting on 11 wins. However, due to the tight nature of the Pacific Division, a few wins will see them climb towards the playoff positions. Of the two the Kings are showing the best form. Todd McLellan’s side have won six of their last 10 games.
Both franchises have been goal shy this season and we’re predicting another low-scoring affair. Under 5.5 goals looks a decent bet at -124 with CanPlay while we fancy the Kings to get the win on the road and build on their momentum coming up to Christmas. Back the Kings in the moneyline betting at +115.
New York Islanders @ Montreal Canadiens
3rd December 2019 7PM
Barry Trotz has obviously brought some of his magic touch to New York. The Stanley Cup winner with the Capitals is now looking to deliver the first success for the Islanders fans since 1988. They have been one of the most impressive sides in the league this season.
They’re second in the Metropolitan Division, only seven points behind the Capitals, despite having played four games less. They have won six of their last ten and they have one of the best defenses in the NHL. Thomas Greiss and Semyon Varlamov have only conceded 56 goals this season.
The Montreal Canadiens made a great start to the season but have lost their last 8 games in a row leaving them in 5th place in the Atlantic Division. The form book suggest only one winner in this one and we’re tipping the Islanders to come home with the points.
Ottawa Senators @ Edmonton Oilers
4th December 2019 8:30PM
The Oilers continue to surprise in the NHL. The perennial underachievers are top of the Pacific Division with 17 wins. They host the struggling Senators at Rogers Place on Wednesday night.
Ottawa are second from bottom in the Atlantic Division and have lost their last four games. This game is the midpoint of a five game road trip that has so far delivered a 7-2 defeat to the Wild and 3-1 to the Flames. There is scope for improvement though and an uptick in form could see them rise up the standings in the coming weeks.
The Edmonton Oilers odds to win the Stanley Cup are shortening every week and they are now listed at +1600 with CanPlay. Their form over the last 10 games hasn’t been as consistent as the opening weeks. Dave Tippett’s side have won five of their last ten.
However, we are expecting them to pick up another win on home ice and continue their great start to the season. Bet on the Senators with CanPlay.
