We’re now a quarter through the 2019/2020 NHL season and no team has staked a claim as outright Stanley Cup favourites yet. The Boston Bruins are currently favourites at +700 with CanPlay and their Atlantic Division rivals Tampa Bay Lightning are second favourites at +900. A whole host of teams fill out the betting after them listed between +900 and +2000.
There is some really top class games on the schedule this week and we have previewed three of the best to add to your betting slip.
Toronto Maple Leafs @ Las Vegas Golden Knights
Tuesday 19th November 10:05PM
The Leafs head south to Nevada on a five game losing streak. That streak has seen them slip down to a 9-9-4 record, fifth place in the Atlantic Division. Their opponents aren’t faring much better in the Pacific Division. Gerard Gallant’s side have a 10-9-3 record although they come into this one on the back of a 6-0 victory over the Calgary Flames.
The Golden Knights are still one of the favourites to lift the Stanley Cup for a reason and they could put together a streak over the next few games to lift them back towards the top of the Western Conference. Reilly Smith has been the main goal threat for the Knights and he will backed to bag a goal again on Tuesday night.
Slow starts have been a hallmark of the Maple Leafs season so they will not be looking forward to their trip to the T-Mobile Arena where the Golden Knights traditionally make a fast start. Rumours are that Mike Babcock’s job is on the line and a sixth defeat on the trot could see him packing his bags.
Unfortunately for Babcock that’s how we see this one going. Back the Golden Knights to win at -145 with CanPlay.
Edmonton Oilers @ San Jose Sharks
Tuesday 19th November 10:30PM
The Sharks’ form belies their lowly position. Peter DeBoer’s side are on a six-game winning streak which includes a victory over Tuesday night’s opponents. That 6-3 victory came last Tuesday night at the SAP Center and they will be hoping for a repeat performance this week.
The Oilers have been the surprise package of the NHL season through the first 20 games. No one expected them to even compete for a playoff spot let alone top their division and their current Stanley Cup odds of +2800 leaves them well off the leading pack.
However, momentum is with the Sharks. We expect them to notch their seventh win in a row while the Oilers begin their five-game road trip with a loss.
Back the San Jose Sharks at -140 with CanPlay.
Buffalo Sabres @ Boston Bruins
Thursday 21st November 7PM
The Sabres make the short trip to Boston with hopes of closing the gap on Atlantic Division leaders Boston Bruins. The Bruins lead the Division with a 12-3-5 record with the Sabres sitting three spots behind them with a 10-7-3 record.
The Bruins have managed to retain top spot in the Division despite losing five of their last six games. That run includes a shootout loss to Conference leaders Washington Capitals in their last game.
Jack Eichel has been a key player for the Sabres in the last few games and he has scored 13 and assisted 11 in 20 games this season. Another big performance will be needed from him to continue the Sabres’ playoff push. David Pastrnak has been similarly effective for the Bruins. The Czech, nicknamed Pasta, has been in top form this season with 32 points to his name.
We’re backing the Bruins to pick up the home win in this one and keep their spot at the top of the Atlantic Division.
