We’re about six games into this NHL season and it’s safe to say that the standings are not as we expected at this time of the year. The Buffalo Sabres lead the Eastern Conference with a 5-0-1 record while the Edmonton Oilers are nearly perfect with a 5-1-0 record in the Pacific Division. Stanley Cup hopefuls the Colorado Avalanche are the only flawless team in the league – winning their opening five games of the season.
There is over 50 games on the schedule this week and we’ve picked out three games for you to place a bet on.
Detroit Red Wings @ Vancouver Canucks: FT – Canucks (-150)
Tuesday 15th October, 22:05PM
The Canucks will look to stretch their winning streak to three with a win over the Red Wings tonight. The Red Wings have had a shaky 3-2-0 start to the season, losing the last day out to the Maple Leafs on home ice.
The Canucks are slight favourites for this one, listed at -150 in the Full Time betting with CanPlay. We predicted last week that the Vancouver men would kickstart their season with a win against the Kings and the duly delivered – so we’re backing them again.
It must be noted that the Canucks will be without regular goalie Jacob Markstrom and injury prone backup Thatcher Demko will take his place for this one. That might give the Detroit fans a sliver of hope but we can only see this going one way.
Back the Canucks in the Full Time Market with CanPlay.
Philadelphia Flyers @ Edmonton Oilers
Wednesday 16th October, 22:30PM
The Oilers suffered their first loss of the season to the Blackhawks on Monday night but they still sit atop the Pacific Division with five wins under their belt. The Flyers have only played three games this season, winning two and losing the other to the Canucks in a shootout on Saturday.
That game in Vancouver was the first of their Canadian trip and they face Calgary tonight before heading north for this game in Edmonton on Wednesday. The Flyers have relied on Carter Hart to provide most of their defense in goal so far and he might be rested on Tuesday to prepare for the game with the Oilers.
A lot will depend on Tuesday night’s game but it seems that the Oilers have the edge in this one. Dave Tippett’s team have a tough stretch of games coming up before the end of the month and this should set them up nicely.
Ottawa Senators @ Las Vegas Golden Knights
Thursday 17th October, 9PM
Three seasons ago the Ottawa Senators nearly made it to the Stanley Cup Final, losing out 4-3 in the Eastern Conference Finals to Pittsburgh which included a double OT loss in Game 7. Only Bobby Ryan remains from that squad if and if you look at the Stanley Cup odds today then you will have to scroll all the way to the bottom to find the Senators. A $10 bet on the Senators would return over $2500 with CanPlay!
Your best bet is to keep your money away from Ottawa in all situations, this game included. The Golden Knights have beaten them on three out of the four occasions they have faced each other and win number four is surely on its way this week. Vegas have started the season as expected with four wins and two losses to their name.
The Golden Knights are second favourites for the Stanley Cup at +900 and they should cover the spread on Thursday.
