The NFL season is coming back this weekend. As per normal the SuperBowl Champions will kick off the season start. The Kansas City Chiefs will play the Houston Texans on Thursday night at 7 p.m. As we have seen several other American sports had to change their seasons due to the Covid-19 virus. Luckily, the NFL season is able to press ahead without any changes in their schedule so far. This season might make it easier for teams on the road as like most other sports there will be no fans at any of the games. Check out our Power Rankings to start out the NFL season preview.
1.Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are looking like they can go straight to another SuperBowl win providing they can keep their roster healthy. Last season they were extremely efficient offensively being led by Patrick Mahomes the face of their franchise. They were a bit open defensively in the first half of last season but really tightened up in the latter end of the season. This Chiefs team doesn’t display any outstanding weaknesses and they will be the team to beat.
2.Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens were the strongest team in the regular season last year. So much so that Lamar Jackson had been cut down to (-10000) to win the MVP. He led the NFL with a staggering 36 touchdown passes. He also displayed quality being able to run the ball when needed. Lamar Jackson had suffered a groin injury in the offseason but is expected to fully recover for their opener against Cleveland. Mark Ingram and Gus Edwards had a lot of success with the rushing game last year and will be looking to continue that form towards the playoffs this season. The Ravens are a definite for the playoffs and could win the Superbowl if they don’t crumble as easily as last season.
3.San Francisco 49ers
Last years Superbowl finalists who got beaten out by the Chiefs. It is extremely rare for a team to lose in the final of a Superbowl and return the next year to win it. It has only ever happened three times. However, we could give Kyle Shanahan the benefit of the doubt. They are likely to start the season rocky missing out on Deebo Samuel with a broken foot and the first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk is out with a hamstring injury. Jalen Hurd, Tavon Austin, and Richie James Jr are also out. At least George Kittle is still healthy. The 49ers may start the season slowly but will start picking up more wins towards the second half of the season if they can keep their roster healthy.
4.New Orleans Saints
The Saints have made the playoffs for the last three years. They have one of the deepest rosters available out of all NFL teams. The big question surrounding the Saints is if Drew Brees has got one more season in him at quarterback. A big addition to the roster was getting Emmanuel Sanders from San Francisco in free agency. The Saints will also look to Taysum Hill and Jameis Winston to pick up their share of touchdowns. Our NFL season preview predicts the Saints will beat most teams but could really take advantage against teams like the Chiefs and Ravens if they can not keep full rosters.
5.Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks are strong offensively being led by Russell Wilson at quarterback. Josh Gordon could be a big target for Wilson, and they will be looking for some big running yards from him providing he does not get a sixth drug-related ban. D.K Metcalf could improve on his rookie year and be a great passing and running option for the Seahawks. If Seattle can tighten up their defense for this season and be more aggressive on their pass-rushing, they could make a good playoff run. Seattle is good enough to score 35 points a game with their offense, but their defense last season would be liable to leak 40.
6.Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys offense has the potential to dismantle any team in the league on their day. Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup could be the main targets for Dak Prescott. However, first-round pick CeeDee Lamb has apparently hit the ground running in the training camps and could make a big impact in the Dallas lineup. Ezekiel Elliot and Tyron Smith also have the potential to put up some big yards. All eyes will be on Mike McCarthy as the new coach to make some improvements on the Cowboys from last year’s run where they narrowly missed the wildcard spot.
7.New England Patriots
The Patriots are going to look quite different this year for the first time in a long time. After the departure of Tom Brady, they will have a new starting quarterback for the first time in over 15 years. The question is who will take on the mantle? It is looking like Cam Newton will be lining out as the first choice as Jarrett Stidham suffered a leg injury in late August. Stidham is healthy now but is unlikely to make it into the starting team unless Newton can’t handle the pressure. Bill Belichick has proven time and time again he knows how to win so don’t be surprised if the Patriots are making a late playoff run.
8.Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay was an average team last season and went 7-9 finishing third in NFC South. The Bucs will be looking to strengthen up their defense from last season. They are one of the most difficult teams to predict for our NFL season preview. One of the major factors surrounding Tampa Bay is Tom Brady. Many wonder whether the future hall of famer is still fit enough to lead a highly effective offense. When he played for New England they averaged less than 20 points a game from 2001 to 2019. It may take some time for the team to gel. If they lose in week 1 against a strong Saints team, NFL fans will no doubt write them off. However, these veterans have the ability to make it to the playoffs if they can all remain healthy.
