We’ve gone a perfect six from six with our predictions in the last two weeks and we’re hoping to round off November with three more winning tips.
Last week, the Raptors dealt with the struggling Trail Blazers with ease, the Suns held their home court advantage against the Hawks while the Lakers beat the Kings albeit on a tighter margin than expected.
We’re now five weeks into the NBA season and both Conferences are taking shape. The Lakers and the Celtics have been the pacesetters in the West and East respectively.
Orlando Magic @ Toronto Raptors
Wednesday 20th November 7:35PM
The Orlando Magic make the long trip north of the border to play current NBA champions Toronto Raptors in a repeat of Round 1 of last year’s Eastern Conference Playoffs. That series finished 4-1 with the Raptors obviously progressing but the Magic did manage to win away from home in the series opener.
Both franchises have started well this season. The Raptors are 9-4 while the Magic have won three in a row and currently sit 7th in the Eastern Conference standings.
Looking ahead to this game we can’t look past the fact that the Raptors are undefeated at home while the Magic have yet to win outside of Orlando. It’s surprising then that the points spread is only 4.5. This comes after the Raptors demolished the Hornets on home court on Monday night. Seven players scored in double figures and the Raps won with a 36 point margin.
We’re tipping the Raptors (-4.5) at -106 with CanPlay. Fred Van Vleet to score over 18.5 points could be a decent bet at +100 too.
Houston Rockets @ Denver Nuggets
Wednesday 20th November 9:05PM
2nd plays 3rd in this eagerly anticipated Western Conference match-up. The Houston Rockets’ are the form team in the league, winning their last eight games in a row. The Nuggets have been in similarly impressive form with six wins in their last seven outings.
Former MVPs James Harden and Russell Westbrook are performing above expectations in Mike D’Antoni’s Houston offense. Harden leads the league in scoring, averaging 39.2 points per game and Westbrook is putting up numbers similar to his MVP-winning season. They have been ably assisted by center Clint Capela who is averaging a double-double.
The Nuggets can’t match the star power of the Rockets but they do have plenty of depth. Juancho Hernangomes and Jerami Grant have added scoring off the bench to aid Jamal Murray, Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap. The Nuggets are two point favourites with CanPlay and a win would lift them equal with the Rockets.
We think the value bet in this one is the Rockets in the moneyline betting. They have beaten teams by an average of 14 points in this winning stretch and Harden has been unstoppable. That’s decent value at +115 with CanPlay. If you’re interested in player betting then Russell Westbrook to score over 20.5 points is a good bet at -125.
Los Angeles Lakers @ Oklahoma City Thunder
Friday 22nd November 8PM
The Lakers face off against the Oklahoma City Thunder for the second time this week at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The Lakers beat the Thunders at Staples on Tuesday night on a scoreline of 112-107. LeBron James made history on Tuesday with a triple-double against the Thunder. He is now the only player in NBA history to record a triple-double against every NBA franchise.
James is now one of the favourites to win the regular season MVP title and he has been a key player in the Lakers rise to the top of the Western Conference standings. Their other MVP candidate, Anthony Davis, has also been in good form. He registered 34 points and seven rebounds on Tuesday night.
The Thunder have struggled so far this season with a 5-9 record. Second year player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has provided most of their scoring with 19.4 points per game. We can only see one outcome in this one and that’s another Lakers win.
Back LeBron James & Co. to win with CanPlay.
