We have now reached the final rounds of the much talked about NBA 2K Players Tournament. We’re now into the Championship Rounds with the Semi Finals and Final coming on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The remaining four players come from two NBA franchises – the Los Angeles Clippers and the Phoenix Suns. The Suns’ DeAndre Ayton and Devin Booker will face off against Patrick Beverley and Montrezl Harrell respectively.
That comes after Ayton upset Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young in the Quarter Finals. His teammate Booker remains the favourite to take home the top prize of $100,000 to their chosen charity. Booker dominated young Wizards player Rui Hachimura on a scoreline of 71-55 in the Quarter Final.
The Clippers pair of Harrell and Beverley progressed through to the Semi Finals with victories over Derrick Jones Jr. and Andre Drummond.
Quarter Final Results
Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns) 71 vs 55 Rui Hachimura (Washington Wizards)
Montrezl Harrell (Los Angeles Clippers) 71 vs 66 Derrick Jones Jr. (Miami Heat)
Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks) 66 vs 73 DeAndre Ayton (Phoenix Suns)
Patrick Beverley (Los Angeles Clippers) 69 vs 62 Andre Drummond (Cleveland Cavaliers)
As predicted in our Quarter Final preview, Patrick Beverley’s thrash talk was a highlight of Thursday night’s action. The Clippers guard, known for his defense on the court, put in a great defensive display on the sticks with a 69-62 win over Cleveland big man Drummond who was considered the favourite.
Championship Round Preview
Semi Final 1 – Devin Booker vs Montrezl Harrell
Semi Final 2 – DeAndre Ayton vs Patrick Beverley
The Semi Finals will begin at 8PM ET on Saturday evening. Once again, the games will be available to stream on all of NBA’s social media channels as well as ESPN in the US.
The Phoenix pair of Booker and Ayton are the favourites to reach Sunday’s Final. Booker has been the standout player of the tournament and he has got Esports pedigree. The Kentucky alum is a member of Esports team 100 Thieves and he has participated in a number of high-level Call of Duty tournaments.
Beverley has taken the ‘dark horse’ tag from the man he defeated on Thursday night, Andre Drummond. Beverley took control of the Philadelphia 76ers in the Quarter Finals which gives him the option of controlling himself and his Los Angeles Clippers teammates in the Final Rounds. Statistically they are one of the best teams in the game and that could give him a major advantage on Saturday and Sunday.
So how do we see the weekend playing out? Devin Booker should go all the way and win the tournament and he is heavy favourite to do so. The other side of the draw is much harder to call.
Ayton has an Esports background and he has impressed in the opening two rounds of the competition and we could be set for an all-Phoenix final. However, we are going to tip Patrick Beverley to beat Ayton and run Booker close in the Final.
Our NBA 2K Players Tournament Final Prediction
Devin Booker 77 – 70 Patrick Beverley
