The MLS Playoffs kick off this weekend with all six Round 1 single-elimination games taking place on Saturday and Sunday. Los Angeles FC have already progressed to the Western Conference semi-finals while New York City FC are at the same stage in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.
We have taken a look at the markets for three of this weekend’s big MLS Playoffs to provide you with the best tips to get involved in the betting action.
Atlanta United vs New England Revolution, October 19th 1PM
A 2 seed versus a 7 seed and a rematch of the final game of the season. That game resulted in a much needed 3-1 win for United. The reigning champions had been beaten 3-1 by Eastern Conference leader NYCFC just two weeks previous.
13 points separated these two sides in the final Eastern Conference standings and it’s a big ask for the Revolution to get a result this Saturday. Apart from that blip against NYCFC, Atlanta have been brilliant in the second half of the season. Striker Josef Martinez broke the record for most consecutive games with a goal (15) this season and he looks primed for another run at the MLS Cup.
Atlanta United to win to zero at +135 looks to be the value bet for this one.
Toronto FC vs D.C United, October 19th 6PM
Fourth seed plays fifth seed for the opportunity to face New York City in this Saturday evening match. TFC are the form team in this one. They are undefeated in their last 10 games and they have an attacking lineup to trouble any team with Jozy Altidore and Alejandro Pozuelo leading the line.
Their opponents, D.C United, have had a far more inconsistent final two months of the regular season. Three wins in early September looked set to give them home advantage in the playoffs but a 0-0 draw with bottom team Cincinnati in the final game of the season saw them lose their fourth spot to Toronto. This could be their captain Wayne Rooney’s last appearance in the D.C jersey before he heads back to England to take up a role as player-coach with Championship side Derby County. D.C rely on their defense to keep them in games and Bill Hamid is likely to be named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.
Home advantage will play its part and Toronto should have just enough to squeak by. We’re backing Toronto to win and under 2.5 goals in the game.

Minnesota United vs LA Galaxy, October 20th 8:30PM
The First Round of the MLS Playoffs is rounded off by probably the biggest game of the weekend. LA Galaxy head to Minneapolis on Sunday night with the MLS Cup firmly in their sights.
The Galaxy didn’t exactly set the world alight in the regular season but in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Jonathan Dos Santos and Cristian Pavon they have three of the most exciting players in the league.
Zlatan wins trophies. He has won 32 in his 20-year career and we have the feeling he might pick up number 33 this winter. This Sunday’s game is no easy task though. Traditional strugglers Minnesota United finally seem to have found some grit under manager Adrian Heath. The Loons look like a team transformed in the Allianz Field and they will be backed all the way by their fans this weekend.
This will be another close one but Zlatan & Co. should have enough quality to get the win. That will set up an El Trafico derby with cross-city rivals LAFC in the Conference semi-finals.
