Last week’s games broke the record for the most goals scored in a weekend with 44 including two 5-2 results as well as a 4-3 between Leeds and Fulham and a 4-2 win for Leicester vs. Burnley. We may not get just as many this weekend but there’s still plenty to look forward to on this weekend’s schedule.
Brighton vs Manchester United
Saturday 26th September 2020 7:30AM
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bring his Manchester United team down to the south coast of England for the early game on Saturday. Already he, and the players, are under pressure. A lacklustre performance against Crystal Palace last weekend has raised eyebrows and a win is needed to kickstart their season.
However, that will be no easy task against Graham Potter’s side. Brighton bounced back from an opening night defeat to Chelsea with a 3-0 win away at Newcastle last weekend. Their front pairing of Neal Maupay and Aaron Connolly have formed a great partnership while youngster Tariq Lamptey has caught the eye at right back.
United are still heavy favourites despite the contrasting performances of these two sides last week. Solskjaer’s side are available to back at -125 with CanPlay while Brighton can be backed at an appealing +380. As we mentioned, Brighton’s strikers Maupay and Connolly have already been amongst the goals this season and they are available to back at +250 and +350 respectively to score anytime on Saturday.
If you’re expecting this weekend’s fixture list to start with another goalfest then you can bet on over 4.5 goals at +510 with CanPlay.
Manchester City vs Leicester City
Sunday 27th September 2020 11:30AM
Man City host league leaders Leicester on Sunday. The Foxes have had a relatively easy start to the new campaign with a 3-0 win over newly promoted West Brom and 4-2 defeat of Burnley last weekend. A trip to Manchester is a different prospect though.
Pep Guardiola’s team are unbeaten in their last 11 home league games and they have won their last seven on an aggregate score of 26-1. However, they were tested at times against Wolves in their opening game of the season and can count themselves lucky not to have conceded more than one goal. The centre-back pairing of John Stones and Nathan Aké is not one that anyone would describe as ‘rock solid’.
That will give Jamie Vardy and his teammates hope. Last season’s top scorer is +185 to score anytime and +600 to score first on Sunday. It’s worth remembering that he did score first in this fixture last season although City eventually ran out 3-1 winners.
If you think we’ll have a repeat of that scoreline this weekend, you can back it at +1000 with CanPlay.
Liverpool vs Arsenal
Monday 28th September 2020 3PM
This is the standout fixture of matchday three. Last year’s champions host Mikel Arteta’s new and improved Arsenal.
Both sides have made impressive starts to the season with two wins from two. This is also a repeat of this season’s Community Shield which saw Arsenal take the honours with a 5-4 penalty shootout win.
Arteta will be confident that his team have what it takes to come away from Anfield with all three points. His new front three of Willian, Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have gelled well with Nicolas Pepé and Eddie Nketiah providing further attacking impetus off the bench.
They have looked solid at the other end of the pitch too. Rob Holding and new signing Gabriel have provided a solid base at the centre of defense. They will face a difficult test on Monday night though against Liverpool’s potent front three.
This one is too close to call but Liverpool to win and both teams to score could be the standout bet at +150 with CanPlay.
