The Premier League is back this week with a full round of fixtures after the winter break. It has been an eventful week off the pitch for the top teams in the league – Manchester City have been given a two-year ban from European football while Liverpool suffered a blow to their Champions League defence with a 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid.
The Reds’ 1-0 win over Norwich last weekend stretched their lead to 25 points at the top of the table. They play West Ham on Monday night.
Chelsea vs Tottenham
22nd February 2020 @ 7:30AM
After spending most of the season sitting comfortably in the Top Four, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea are now in danger of slipping into the Europa League positions with a number of teams chasing their tail.
One of those teams is Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have won their last three in a row and now sit only one point behind Chelsea in the table. A win for José Mourinho on his old stomping ground will see his Spurs team leapfrog Chelsea into the Champions League places.
This game is more even than the odds suggest. Chelsea haven’t won in their last four and they have lost more home games this season (7) than any campaign since 1986. No manager knows how to win at Stamford Bridge more than Mourinho. Spurs are available at an attractive +335 with CanPlay to win this weekend.
It must be taken into account though that Mourinho will be without his two main attackers for this fixture. Harry Kane has a long-term injury while it was revealed that last week’s match winner suffered a fractured arm in the game against West Ham.
Lucas Moura will most likely step into the breach this weekend and he can backed to score anytime at +350 with CanPlay.
Southampton vs Aston Villa
22nd February 2020 @ 10AM
At the opposite end of the table we have Southampton and Aston Villa in a relegation battle. Despite their recent run of good form, Southampton still find themselves in a relegation battle. They are only six points ahead of Saturday’s opponents who are in 17th.
Aston Villa will fancy their chances this weekend. Only 11 of their 31 points have been picked up at home and they have conceded 30 goals in their 13 games at Saint Mary’s. Luckily for Ralph Hassenhuttl, Danny Ings has provided the firepower up front. The former Liverpool man has scored 15 goals in 25 league games this season. His goalscoring form has been so steady that he is odds-on to score on Saturday. You can back Ings to score at -175 with CanPlay.
Villa’s January signing, Mbwena Sammatta, scored on his debut on the south coast. You can back him to score at +240 with CanPlay.
Leicester City vs Manchester City
22nd February 2020 @ 12:30PM
Leicester host Man City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening. This pair are Liverpool’s closest challengers despite being over 20 points behind Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Leicester have slipped away from their early season form. The Foxes have conceded nine goals in their last four home games. This is after they conceded only seven in their first fourteen games. After a brilliant first half of the season, Jamie Vardy has failed to score in the Premier League in 2020. However, he will have positive memories of facing this City back four having scored a brilliant solo goal at the Etihad earlier this year.
We’re betting on Leicester to get the win this weekend. They’re available to back at a favourable +345 with CanPlay. Guardiola’s City are rightly listed as favourites at -135. However, we must take into account that Manchester have to face West Ham on Wednesday night and are preparing for a Champions League tie with Real Madrid next week.
