Last week the race for the Premier League title officially ended. More fans had accepted it was over around February. Wolves beat Villa 1-0 on Saturday to push towards European football. They now sit two points from fourth place Chelsea and three points away from Leicester in third. The FA Cup filled up last weekend with soccer action. The four remaining teams in the competition are Manchester United who plays Chelsea and Manchester City who play Arsenal. The final is set up to be a derby match between London or Manchester teams but only time will tell who makes it to the final.
The Premier League action this week will see a different London derby when Chelsea travel to West Ham. A race for European football with Sheffield United playing Tottenham on Thursday. Liverpool will receive a guard of honor at the Etihad from Man City.
West Ham vs Chelsea, Wednesday 1st July, 2.15 p.m.
This game looks very straightforward if you look at the league table. West Ham is 17th and just outside of the relegation zone on goal difference by a margin of two goals. Chelsea is sitting in fourth place just one point from third and two points clear of fifth. As a London derby, it does not always go the way it is predicted.
The last 4 games seen both sides come away with one win. The other two games ended in draws. West Ham was hoping to move towards European football over the next few seasons, but their season fell into chaos. Relegation to the Championship will have huge financial implications. Most of their players will also move onto other clubs.
Going based on form and consistency Chelsea is the obvious pick for this one. West Ham is fighting relegation and needs to string together results. However, West Ham look like they are missing the fight required to go out and get a result. West Ham is (+440) to win. A draw is (+330) while a Chelsea win is (-165). Sheffield United vs Tottenham Hotspurs, Thursday 2nd July, 12 p.m.
Both teams have fallen slightly down the table. Tottenham is sitting in seventh while Sheffield United are in eight place. There is just one point between these sides. Either team can make a push for European football now. With only seven games left the losing side will likely not get the chance to play European football next season.
Sheffield United have hit a poor run of form not winning a game in their last 3. It is difficult for a side like Sheffield to bounce right back into the form they had before the break. On the other hand, Tottenham who is in poor form grabbed a deserved 2-0 win over West Ham. Based on consistency Mourinho’s side look like the stronger team.
Tottenham is the favorites for this game at (+100). Sheffield United are (+305) to win the game. It is (+245) for the match to end in a draw. Take the favorites for this match and back Tottenham here at Canplay.
Manchester City vs Liverpool, Thursday 2nd July, 2.15 p.m.
We see Liverpool play their first match after they won the league. As always, the champions-elect will receive a guard of honor from the Man City team as they come onto the field. This would have been a long-awaited game if Man City had defeated Chelsea in their last game. The season is not over for Liverpool who is looking at breaking a couple of Premier League records.
Fernandinho and Aguero will be out for Man City. This deals a huge blow on both their attacking and defensive ends. Man City are looking to prioritize other competitions away from the Premier League. Focusing on the FA Cup and a Champions League return in August. On the other hand, Liverpool may become complacent as they have already won.
Man City are (+100) to win. Liverpool is (+240) to come away with the victory. You can get a draw at (+295). Man City has been in good form since the restart but are now missing a few players. Liverpool has their sights on winning the rest of its games. Back Liverpool to win here at Canplay.
