Manchester United vs Newcastle United
Wednesday 26th December 12:30PM
Steve Bruce’s Newcastle can leapfrog Manchester United with a Boxing Day victory over Manchester United. They have achieved that once already this season. Matty Longstaff scored the winner in St. James’ Park on his debut earlier in the season.
That seemed to be the kickstarter for Newcastle’s season and they now sit 9th in the league, only three points off 5th place Sheffield United. They have actually picked up more wins than Thursday’s opponents this season.
The Red Devils are on the bounce back trail once again after they lost to basement dwellers Watford on Sunday afternoon. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said his team played like it was his testimonial. A major improvement is needed if they are to pick up a positive result this Thursday.
Considering Manchester United’s struggles against ‘bottom-half’ teams, the odds of +800 for Newcastle United to come away with the win looks quite appealing. If you’re looking for a more solid pick, you can back Newcastle (+2) at -130 with CanPlay.
Most of Newcastle’s goals this season have come from defenders. If player betting is your thing then Fabian Schar to score anytime is decent value at +900. The big Swiss defender scored five goals last season.
Leicester City vs Liverpool
Wednesday 26th December 3PM
Club World Cup champions Liverpool return to Premier League action with a chance to cement their position at the top of the league. They face second place Leicester City in an exciting top of the table clash.
Liverpool are 10 points ahead of Leicester with a game of hand and a win here would make their lead almost unassailable. Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester side have impressed fans and pundits alike with their attacking, high tempo football. They matched Liverpool in their previous meeting this season, a late penalty securing a 2-1 victory for the last season’s Champions League winners.
Liverpool have been almost unbeatable this season and on current form you would expect them to steamroll their less experienced opponents. However, their extra-time finale in Doha on Saturday evening complicates matters. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain picked up an injury and he will most likely miss the festive fixtures. With that in mind, we’re tipping Leicester to hand Liverpool their first defeat of the Premier League season. Back the Foxes to win at +235 with CanPlay.
Looking at the player betting, Jamie Vardy has been in the best form of his career this season and the former England striker is an appealing +115 to score anytime on Thursday evening.
