After seeing the first major soccer league returning there was almost no form to go off after the break. At least now we can see which teams have come back out of the blocks firing. The German league is still looking like it is going to be a furious and hard push to the end of the season for teams like Munich, Dortmund, and Wolfsburg.
This week we get to see a Berlin city derby and the leagues two top teams push towards lifting the title. Dortmund and Bayern play each other next week and depending on that result every single point will be crucial for these sides.
Hertha Berlin v Union Berlin
22nd May, 1.30 p.m.
Matchday 27 begins with the Berlin derby. We see Hertha play Union for the second time this season. Union grabbed a win in the first top-flight Berlin derby in over 40 years as Sebastian Polter’s late penalty clutched the win in November 2019. It was a deserved win for the hosts that day as Hertha failed to threaten across the 90 minutes.
Hertha’s games normally bring goals. The 0-0 draw with Schalke in January was the only time a fixture has dropped below returning over 2.5 goals this side of the winter break. This could be a good value side bet for the game. Trying to predict this derby proved difficult. Considering how we have seen the unpredictable nature of Hertha this season. As a result, it does make the outright market a difficult one to conquer.
After the long break Hertha will be hoping to become a bit more predictable. They should be fired up for this derby. Overall being the better side Hertha should come away with the win. Place a wager on Hertha to win at (+140) here at Canplay.
Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund
23rd May, 8.30 a.m.
Dortmund are hot on the tails of league leaders Bayern Munich. Only trailing their title-rivals by four points. Next step towards overtaking Munich, they now face a Wolfsburg side who are sitting in sixth place and have their own hopes of making a late surge for a European place. Dortmund won 4-0 last week against Schalke.
Wolfsburg were 2-1 winners over Augsburg in their first game back and they will provide a sterner test for Dortmund than Schalke did last weekend. Getting a European place will not be easy as Freiburg and Schalke are within two points of them. Also, Hoffenheim are only four points adrift.
Due to the fact Wolfsburg rarely do well in this fixture we are leaning towards Dortmund. Wolfsburg have 1 point from their last 9 meetings against Dortmund.
Bet on Borussia Dortmund at (-120) with Canplay.
Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt
23rd May, 11.30 a.m.
Currently, Bayern are four points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund. They are currently enjoying a 12-match unbeaten run in the league. Their routine win over Union on Sunday adding to the constantly expanding winning streak.
Frankfurt suffered a familiar story on Saturday. The last season’s Europa League semi-finalists fell to a 3-1 reversal against Borussia Monchengladbach. It means Adi Hutter’s men are now lurking just outside the relegation play-off position by five points. It is also not looking likely that they will move towards safety after this weekend.
As Dortmund still must play Munich there really is no room for a slip up from the German giants. Any points that are let slip in the last number of games could be the difference between winning and losing the title. Bet on Bayern Munich to win against the spread (-1) at (-260) here at Canplay.
